Arm
and Shoulder Pain:
Arm
and shoulder pain can be caused by many different things. The
shoulder joint is similar to the hip joint, which is a ball and socket
type joint. The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, because
of its great mobility, it sacrifices stability. After the doctor completes
a case history, a thorough examination, and other shoulder and arm test,
he will check for Bursitis, Tendinitis, Rotary Cuff Tears, and Degenerative
Arthritis. The doctor also specifically examines the cervical spine
(the neck) to check for proper alignment of the vertebral.
The
nerves that supply all the functions to the shoulders and arms exit
from the neck and the upper back between the vertebras in the spine.
If any of these vertebras are out of alignment, they put pressure on
a nerve and irritation will occur, resulting in improper arm or shoulder
function. This dysfunction may be accompanied by pain and a pins-and-needles
sensation in one or both arms with sharpshooting pain between the shoulder
blades.
Many
times a small dislocation of the shoulder, due to instability, is found
in the shoulder where the arm fits into the socket. This small
subluxation of the shoulder will cause constant, mild to moderate, pain
which is intensified upon motion of the shoulder and will restrict the
range of motion of that joint.
Dr.
Skaggs is trained specifically in the detection and correction of spinal
misalignments. The restoration of the proper position and motion
of the cervical vertebras restore the nerve function and results in
better coordination and strength of the muscles and ligaments.
Treatment of the shoulder joint with Chiropractic adjustments and proper
exercise will get you back to your healthy active lifestyle without
the use of drugs or surgery.
