Disc
Problems :
One
cause of low back pain and neck pain can be a bulging disk applying
pressure on the spinal cord or nearby nerve root. This often results
in numbness, tingling, or pain radiating down one or both of the arms
or legs. The intervertebral disc are like little pads that lie
in between the vertebra. They act like shock absorbers, cushioning
and absorbing the blow between the bones that occur when you walk.
The disc help to give the spine its curves, flexibility, and strength.
Because of the way each disc is attached to the vertebra above and below,
a disc cannot slip. The term "slipped disc" is a misnomer
as it is impossible for a disc to actually slip. However, a disc
can be herniated of which there are two types, protrusion or prolapse.
A protrusion can occur if the nucleus pulposis (the inner part) bulges,
pushing the angular fibrous (the outer rings) outwardly, putting pressure
on nerves and irritating surrounding tissue. A prolapse occurs
if the nucleus bulges out so much it actually appears separated from
the rest of the disc. If the prolapsed disc goes in the spinal cord,
it puts pressure on the nerves and will cause severe pain that will
make sitting, standing, walking, and bending nearly impossible.
It can even cause a patient to loose control of their bowel or bladder.
The
vast majority of people with low back or neck pain never need surgery.
Even if a surgery is successful, operations can cause scar tissue which
causes permanent spinal weakness, distortion and instability.
The Chiropractic approach for treating low back pain, neck pain, and
vertebral disc problems is to find the source of the problem and correct
it. This is not just treating the symptom, but the cause. By
correcting the source of the problem, the body can heal naturally without
any nerve interference. Disc problems respond dramatically to the restoration
of normal position of the vertebras with chiropractic care.
