Arm and Shoulder Pain Treatment in Joplin

Arm and shoulder pain can be caused by many different things. The shoulder joint is similar to the hip joint, which is a ball and socket type joint. The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, because of its great mobility, it sacrifices stability. After Dr. Skaggs completes a case history, a thorough examination, and other shoulder and arm test, he will check for Bursitis, Tendinitis, Rotary Cuff Tears, and Degenerative Arthritis. Dr. Skaggs specifically examines the cervical spine (the neck) to check for proper alignment of the vertebrae.

The nerves that supply the functions to the shoulders and arms exit from the neck and the upper back between the vertebrae in the spine. If any of these vertebrae are out of alignment, they put pressure on nerves and irritation will occur, resulting in improper arm or shoulder function. This dysfunction may be accompanied by pain and/or a pins-and-needles sensation in one or both arms with sharp shooting pain between the shoulder blades.

Many times a partial dislocation (subluxation) of the shoulder, due to instability, is found in the shoulder where the ball fits into the socket. This small subluxation of the shoulder can cause constant, mild to moderate pain which is intensified upon motion of the shoulder and will restrict the range of motion of that joint.

Dr. Skaggs is trained specifically in the detection and correction of shoulder subluxations. The restoration of the proper position of the shoulder joint often gives the patient instant relief from the pain and restores the ranges of motion back to normal with little or no pain during movement. If left untreated, the shoulder joint can have abnormal wear and tear which that can cause irreversible damage to the joint. Treatment of the shoulder joint with Chiropractic adjustments and proper exercise can get you back to your healthy active lifestyle without the use of drugs or surgery.
