Man with neck pain at computer desk

Working a desk job isn’t a guarantee you won’t suffer from spinal injuries like herniated discs, tension, pinched nerves, and muscle spasms.

Every year, nearly 80% of people experience neck pain.

Neck pain isn’t anything to take lightly. If there’s pain, that means your spine and musculoskeletal system are strained or damaged. Fortunately, you can correct and avoid neck pain in the first place with proper sitting posture.

Proper Sitting Posture Checklist to Avoid Neck Pain

Follow these tips to avoid tension and pain in your neck and upper back.

  1. Maintain proper sitting posture: adjust your chair with your feet flat on the floor and your elbows at a 90-degree angle.
  2. Position your monitor at eye-level. (Most people’s monitor is too low.)
  3. Proper computer posture means sitting with your back flush against the chair.
  4. Use an adjustable desk to stand for at least a few hours each day. (It helps reduce anxiousness, too.)
  5. Choose ergonomic office furniture and supplies: keyboard, mouse, chair, laptop stand, etc.
